Milk Education is looking for caring, patient and resilient Physical Disability & Moving & Handling Support Assistants to work across schools in Stockport and Tameside.

We are looking for experienced support professionals who can provide high-quality 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with physical disabilities, complex learning needs and additional needs, helping them access education and develop their confidence and independence.

The Role

As a Physical Disability & Moving & Handling Support Assistant, you may be responsible for:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with physical disabilities and complex needs.
• Supporting pupils with learning, communication, mobility and personal care where required.
• Assisting pupils to access classroom activities, school facilities and wider school life.
• Supporting activities that promote independence, confidence and social development.
• Following individual support plans and working closely with teachers, SENCOs and wider professionals.
• Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
• Building trusting and supportive relationships with pupils.
• Creating a safe, calm and inclusive learning environment.

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND, physical disabilities or complex needs .
• Experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Support Worker, Care Worker or similar.
• A patient, calm and adaptable approach.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Confidence supporting individual needs and working as part of a wider team.
• A genuine commitment to helping pupils develop their independence and reach their potential.

The following qualifications and experience would be desirable but are not essential

• Moving & Handling training.
• Hoist training and experience.
• Personal care experience.
• First Aid or Paediatric First Aid.
• Experience supporting wheelchair users or pupils with physical disabilities.
• Experience supporting pupils with complex medical or additional needs.
• Relevant SEND, health and social care qualifications.
