Job Description
Shift Plant Operator
Altera Recruitment Group is supporting a specialist Energy from Waste operator in the recruitment of a Shift Plant Operator for its advanced thermal treatment facility in Stoke-on-Trent.
This position is well suited to an individual with experience in boiler operations or heavy process industries who is looking to build a long term career within the renewable energy sector.
Key Responsibilities of the Shift Plant Operator

Monitor and operate boilers, turbines and associated plant equipment to maximise performance and steam generation.

Optimise plant processes using the DCS control system by monitoring temperature, pressure and flow, taking corrective action where required.

Respond to alarms, faults, plant upsets and emergency situations to maintain safe and reliable operation.

Operate the overhead waste crane and, when required, carry out plant attendant duties including FLT operations, loading and unloading vehicles and managing raw materials and ash removal.

Maintain accurate operational records, support housekeeping standards and ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental procedures.
Candidate Requirements

Previous experience within boiler operations or a heavy industrial process environment.

GCSE Maths and Science at Grade C / Level 5 or equivalent.

A reliable and proactive approach with the ability to work effectively within a shift team.

Experience with DCS systems, process plant or a mechanical, electrical or instrumentation background would be advantageous.

BOAS, City & Guilds Small Thermal Plant, FLT, COSHH or HAZOP experience would all be beneficial but are not essential.
