Power Systems Electrical Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Power Systems Electrical Engineer to join their growing team in Cardiff . This role is crucial for the design, analysis, and implementation of robust power distribution and generation systems. You will contribute to significant infrastructure projects, ensuring reliability, efficiency, and safety across all aspects of the power systems under your purview. The ideal candidate will possess a strong theoretical understanding combined with practical experience in managing complex power infrastructure, working within a collaborative environment focused on sustainable energy solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform detailed load flow, short circuit, and stability analyses for electrical power systems.
• Design and specify high-voltage and medium-voltage electrical equipment, including transformers, switchgear, and protection relays.
• Develop protection schemes and coordinate protective devices to ensure system security and fault isolation.
• Contribute to the planning and design of renewable energy integration projects, such as solar and wind farms.
• Prepare technical specifications, engineering reports, and project documentation for client and regulatory review.
• Undertake site visits for commissioning, troubleshooting, and performance monitoring of power system assets.

Requirements

• Degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience focused on power system analysis and design.
• Proficiency with power system simulation software (e.g., PSS/E, ETAP, PSCAD).
• Solid understanding of grid codes, electrical codes (e.g., NEC, BS 7671), and relevant standards.
• Experience with protection systems, SCADA, and substation automation is highly desirable.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to work effectively on multiple projects simultaneously in Cardiff .
