Power Systems Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Power Systems Engineer to join their innovative team, working predominantly remotely with occasional site visits as required in the Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, UK area. This role is vital for the development and optimisation of robust power infrastructure solutions. You will be instrumental in designing, analysing, and implementing electrical power systems for a variety of clients and projects. Key Responsibilities

• Design, model, and analyse electrical power systems, including generation, transmission, and distribution networks.
• Perform load flow studies, short circuit analysis, and stability assessments using specialized power system software.
• Develop and implement protection schemes and coordinate relays to ensure system safety and reliability.
• Specify and procure power system equipment such as transformers, switchgear, and generators.
• Conduct site surveys and inspections, providing technical expertise during installation, commissioning, and testing phases.
• Prepare technical reports, design documents, and project proposals for clients and internal stakeholders in and around Sunderland .

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience specifically in power systems engineering.
• Proficiency with power system analysis software (e.g., PSS/E, ETAP, DigSILENT PowerFactory).
• Strong understanding of electrical power system principles, protection, and control strategies.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for site visits within the Tyne and Wear region and potentially further afield.
