Press Officer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Press Officer to join their communications team in Cambridge . This role is critical in managing media relations, generating positive press coverage, and responding effectively to media inquiries. You will be responsible for developing press materials, pitching stories to journalists, and monitoring media coverage to ensure alignment with the organization's strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the media landscape, excellent writing skills, and a passion for communicating impactful stories within the academic and scientific community of Cambridgeshire .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement effective media relations strategies.
• Write clear, concise, and compelling press releases, media advisories, and backgrounders.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists and media outlets locally and nationally.
• Pitch stories and secure positive media coverage across print, broadcast, and online channels.
• Monitor media coverage, analyze results, and prepare reports for stakeholders.
• Act as a point of contact for media inquiries and manage urgent communication needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
• Proven experience as a Press Officer, PR Executive, or similar role.
• Demonstrated success in securing media placements and managing media relations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong ability to craft engaging narratives.
• Familiarity with media monitoring tools and techniques.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
