Primary Mental Health Assistant
Location: Swindon
Salary: £90 - £105 per day (dependent on experience)
Job Type: Full-time
Hours: 8:30am - 4:00pm
Start Date: ASAP

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Swindon is seeking a dedicated Primary Mental Health Assistant to join their supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about children's wellbeing who wants to gain hands-on experience supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, autism, and additional learning needs.
Every day is different, but your support will help children feel safe, confident, and ready to learn.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing 1:1 support to help pupils regulate emotions and engage in learning
Supporting children with SEMH needs, autism, and additional needs
Delivering small group activities focused on confidence, resilience, and social skills
Using positive behaviour strategies to support emotional regulation
Building strong relationships with pupils to help them feel secure and understood
Working alongside teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to support individual needs
What We're Looking For:
A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
A genuine interest in children's mental health and development
Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships
Confidence supporting children with SEN, SEMH, or behavioural needs
Previous experience working with children or vulnerable individuals is desirable but not essentialIdeal Backgrounds (Not Essential)
Psychology or related degree
Youth work, care, or support work experience
Experience in SEN settings, PRUs, or alternative provision
Team Teach, MAPA, or CPI trainingWhat's on Offer
Valuable experience supporting children with SEMH and SEN needs
A supportive primary school environment
A strong foundation for careers in psychology, therapy, teaching, youth work, or mental health
