Principal AI Ethicist

About the Role

Our client is a pioneering force in AI development and is seeking a highly influential Principal AI Ethicist to join their fully remote team, based remotely but ideally contributing to their operations connected to Manchester . This critical role involves shaping and implementing ethical guidelines and frameworks for the responsible development and deployment of artificial intelligence technologies. You will be instrumental in ensuring our AI systems are fair, transparent, accountable, and aligned with societal values. This is a unique opportunity to lead discussions on AI ethics, influence company policy, and foster a culture of responsible innovation across the organization, working in a fully distributed model.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive AI ethics policies, standards, and best practices across the organization.
• Conduct ethical risk assessments for new AI projects and products, identifying potential biases and societal impacts.
• Advise engineering and product teams on ethical considerations throughout the AI development lifecycle.
• Stay at the forefront of evolving AI ethics research, regulations, and public discourse.
• Collaborate with external stakeholders, including policymakers, academics, and civil society groups, on AI ethics issues.
• Lead training and awareness programs on AI ethics for employees at all levels.

Requirements

• Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Philosophy, Ethics, Law, Computer Science, or a related field with a focus on technology ethics.
• Significant experience (7+ years) in AI ethics, responsible AI, or technology policy.
• Deep understanding of AI technologies, including machine learning, data privacy, and algorithmic fairness.
• Proven ability to develop practical frameworks and guidance for complex ethical challenges.
• Exceptional analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience working effectively in a fully remote , collaborative environment.
