Principal Cheminformatician

About the Role

Our client seeks a highly skilled Principal Cheminformatician to spearhead their computational chemistry and data science initiatives in Birmingham . This senior position will involve developing and implementing cutting-edge computational strategies to accelerate drug discovery and development processes. You will be instrumental in managing and analyzing large chemical and biological datasets, building predictive models, and providing strategic computational support to multidisciplinary research teams. This is a critical role for an individual with deep expertise in cheminformatics and a passion for applying computational methods to solve complex biological problems within a vibrant R&D setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy advanced cheminformatics algorithms and software tools for drug discovery.
• Manage and analyze large-scale chemical and biological datasets, including structure-activity relationships (SAR) and property data.
• Build, validate, and implement predictive models for compound property, activity, and toxicity.
• Collaborate closely with medicinal chemists, biologists, and pharmacologists to integrate computational insights into research programs.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of cheminformaticians and data scientists.
• Evaluate and implement new technologies and methodologies in computational chemistry and data science.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Cheminformatics , Computational Chemistry, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in computational chemistry, cheminformatics, or data science within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and experience with relevant scientific libraries.
• Expertise in chemical database management, structure searching, and visualization tools.
• Strong understanding of machine learning techniques and their application to chemical data.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a track record of successful project delivery.
