Principal Cloud Architect - AWS Specialist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and visionary Principal Cloud Architect with a deep specialization in AWS to join their entirely remote team. You will lead the design and implementation of enterprise-level cloud solutions, setting the technical direction for their cloud strategy. This role requires a strategic thinker capable of translating business requirements into scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud architectures. You will be instrumental in guiding engineering teams and influencing architectural decisions across the organization, working from your home base near Bristol or anywhere within the UK.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and governance of cloud solutions on AWS, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
• Define and enforce cloud architecture best practices, standards, and patterns across the organization.
• Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance to engineering teams, mentoring senior and junior cloud engineers.
• Evaluate and recommend new cloud services and technologies to enhance platform capabilities.
• Develop strategies for cloud migration, security, disaster recovery, and cost optimization.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across different departments to understand requirements and translate them into actionable architectural plans.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in IT architecture, with at least 7 years focused on designing and implementing large-scale AWS cloud solutions .
• Proven track record as a Principal Architect or similar senior technical leadership role.
• Deep expertise in AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, CloudFormation, EKS).
• Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, microservices, containerization, and serverless computing.
• Experience with security best practices, compliance frameworks, and cost management in the cloud.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
