Principal Crystallographer

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced Principal Crystallographer to lead their structural biology efforts within their world-class research facilities in Cambridge . This senior role is critical for determining the three-dimensional structures of biological macromolecules, providing essential insights for drug discovery and development. You will be responsible for the entire process of protein crystallization, data collection, structure solution, and refinement, utilizing advanced X-ray diffraction techniques. The successful candidate will possess deep expertise in protein crystallography, a strong understanding of structural biology, and a commitment to driving scientific innovation in a collaborative academic and industrial setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the structure determination of target proteins and protein complexes using X-ray crystallography.
• Optimize protein expression, purification, and crystallization conditions to obtain high-quality crystals.
• Collect and process diffraction data at synchrotron facilities and interpret complex datasets.
• Solve and refine protein structures using state-of-the-art crystallographic software.
• Collaborate closely with biochemists, structural biologists, and medicinal chemists to integrate structural information into research programs.
• Mentor junior researchers and contribute to the strategic development of structural biology capabilities.

Requirements

• PhD in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in protein crystallography .
• Proven track record of solving and refining complex protein structures.
• Extensive experience with X-ray data collection at synchrotrons and structure solving software.
• Strong understanding of protein biochemistry, molecular biology, and biophysics.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, with a passion for structural science in Cambridge .
