Principal Data Scientist - AI in Drug Discovery

About the Role

Our client is looking for a visionary Principal Data Scientist to lead their initiatives in applying Artificial Intelligence and machine learning to drug discovery in Manchester . Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement advanced machine learning models (deep learning, reinforcement learning, etc.) for drug discovery applications.
• Analyze complex biological, chemical, and clinical datasets to uncover novel insights and predict drug performance.
• Lead AI/ML projects from conception through to deployment and validation within the R&D pipeline.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams of scientists, engineers, and clinicians to define project requirements and deliver impactful solutions.
• Evaluate and integrate new AI technologies and methodologies into existing workflows.
• Mentor junior data scientists and contribute to the company's data science strategy.

Requirements

• PhD or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Physics, or a related quantitative field with a focus on AI/ML.
• 8+ years of experience in data science and machine learning, with a proven track record in developing and deploying AI models.
• Deep expertise in programming languages (Python, R) and ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn).
• Strong understanding of biological and chemical data types and their applications in drug discovery.
• Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and big data technologies.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex findings to diverse audiences.
