Principal Electrical Engineer - Power Generation

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to join their team in Newcastle upon Tyne , focusing on power generation infrastructure. This senior position requires extensive expertise in the design, implementation, and maintenance of electrical systems within power plants and related energy facilities. You will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of our operations, leading complex technical projects from conception to completion. Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the electrical design and engineering for large-scale power generation projects , including conventional and renewable sources.
• Develop and implement electrical system specifications, single-line diagrams , and protection schemes.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively to ensure successful project delivery.
• Conduct detailed risk assessments and ensure compliance with all relevant electrical safety standards and regulations.
• Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to a team of electrical engineers and technicians.
• Collaborate with procurement, construction, and commissioning teams to ensure seamless project execution.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline; a Master's degree is preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, with a significant focus on power generation and transmission.
• Demonstrated expertise in electrical design, power systems analysis, and protection engineering.
• Experience with SCADA systems, PLCs, and distributed control systems (DCS) .
• Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills are essential.
