About the Role
Our client is looking for a highly experienced Principal Flight Dynamics Engineer to join their esteemed team in Belfast . This senior position involves leading the analysis, simulation, and optimization of aircraft flight dynamics, stability, and control systems. You will be pivotal in ensuring the safe and efficient flight characteristics of new and existing aircraft platforms, working at the forefront of aerospace innovation. The role requires exceptional analytical skills, deep theoretical knowledge, and the ability to mentor other engineers while contributing to complex projects within the vibrant aviation industry of Northern Ireland.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and validation of flight dynamics models for various aircraft configurations, including fixed-wing and rotorcraft.
- Perform comprehensive stability and control analyses, including dynamic modes, handling qualities, and response to control inputs.
- Develop and implement advanced control laws and autopilot systems, optimizing for performance, safety, and efficiency.
- Conduct simulations using sophisticated tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, C++) to predict and verify aircraft behavior in diverse flight conditions.
- Collaborate with aerodynamics, propulsion, and avionics teams to ensure integrated system performance.
- Mentor and guide junior flight dynamics engineers, fostering technical excellence and professional growth.
- Contribute to system design reviews, airworthiness certification processes, and flight test planning.
Requirements
- PhD or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in flight dynamics, stability, and control engineering.
- In-depth knowledge of aerospace dynamics principles , control theory, and mathematical modeling.
- Proficiency with simulation software such as MATLAB/Simulink, FlightGear, or similar.
- Experience with flight control system design, implementation, and testing.
- Strong analytical capabilities, excellent problem-solving skills, and outstanding communication abilities.
