Principal Formulation Scientist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and visionary Principal Formulation Scientist to lead their formulation development efforts in Southampton . This senior position will drive the design and optimization of novel formulations for a range of therapeutic products, aiming to enhance efficacy, stability, and patient compliance. You will be a key contributor to the product pipeline, guiding projects from early-stage development through to manufacturing readiness. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and optimization of innovative drug formulations across various dosage forms.
• Design and execute experimental studies to characterize material properties and formulation performance.
• Oversee the scale-up of formulation processes from laboratory to pilot and commercial scales.
• Provide scientific and technical leadership to a team of formulation scientists and technicians.
• Collaborate closely with analytical development, process engineering, and regulatory affairs teams.
• Author and review technical reports, development protocols, and regulatory submission documents.

Requirements

• PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Extensive experience (10+ years) in pharmaceutical formulation development, with a strong focus on innovative dosage forms.
• Deep understanding of physical chemistry, materials science, and pharmaceutics.
• Proven track record of successfully taking formulations from concept to clinical or commercial stages.
• Experience with GMP manufacturing principles and regulatory guidelines.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills are essential for this role in Southampton .
