About the Role
Our client is seeking a distinguished Principal Geotechnical Engineer to lead their specialist team based in Birmingham . This senior position involves providing expert geotechnical advice on a wide range of projects, from foundation design for high-rise buildings to complex tunnelling and ground remediation strategies. You will be instrumental in driving technical excellence, managing challenging projects, and contributing to the strategic growth of the firm's geotechnical capabilities within the West Midlands region. The role requires a deep understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and ground engineering principles, coupled with strong leadership qualities.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake and manage complex geotechnical investigations and analyses for diverse projects.
- Provide high-level technical direction and oversight on geotechnical designs and specifications.
- Develop innovative solutions for challenging ground conditions, including slope stability, seismic analysis, and deep foundations.
- Lead and mentor a team of geotechnical engineers and technicians, ensuring high standards of technical output and professional development.
- Prepare and review detailed geotechnical reports, proposals, and client presentations.
- Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, and construction teams to ensure the successful and safe implementation of geotechnical designs.
Requirements
- A Master's degree or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Extensive experience (10+ years) specifically in geotechnical engineering, with a significant portion in a lead or principal capacity.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent chartered status is essential.
- Expert knowledge of soil-behaviour modelling, finite element analysis, and ground improvement techniques.
- Demonstrated experience in managing large, multi-disciplinary projects and client relationships.
- Excellent report writing, presentation, and leadership skills.
