About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Principal Geotechnical Engineer to lead their specialist geotechnical team based in Newcastle upon Tyne . This pivotal role involves overseeing complex ground engineering challenges for a wide array of infrastructure and construction projects across the UK. You will be responsible for providing expert technical advice, managing high-value projects, and ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality in all geotechnical designs. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the geotechnical investigation, design, and assessment of complex sites, including foundation design, slope stability, and earthworks.
- Manage and deliver multi-disciplinary geotechnical projects, ensuring technical excellence and client satisfaction.
- Develop and implement ground improvement strategies and deep foundation solutions.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for geotechnical hazards.
- Review and approve technical reports, designs, and calculations prepared by the geotechnical team.
- Mentor and develop junior geotechnical engineers, fostering a high-performance team culture.
Requirements
- MSc or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 10 years' relevant experience in geotechnical engineering consultancy.
- Expert knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering principles.
- Proficiency in geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio).
- Proven ability to manage complex projects, clients, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) with a relevant professional body (e.g., ICE, IGS).
