Principal Mechanical Engineer - Systems Integration

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead their Systems Integration efforts in Bristol . This senior role is essential for ensuring that complex mechanical subsystems work harmoniously within larger integrated systems, particularly in demanding applications like defense or advanced manufacturing. You will be responsible for defining integration strategies, troubleshooting complex interface issues, and ensuring overall system functionality and performance. This is a critical position for an engineer with a broad understanding of mechanical principles and system-level thinking.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and execute the strategy for mechanical systems integration , ensuring seamless interoperability between various subsystems.
• Develop detailed interface control documents (ICDs) and mechanical specifications for system components and assemblies.
• Oversee the integration testing process, identifying and resolving complex mechanical and electro-mechanical issues.
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams (electrical, software, controls) to manage system interfaces and dependencies.
• Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation plans for integration challenges to ensure project success.
• Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams working on system development and integration in Bristol .

Requirements

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with a specialization in systems engineering or integration.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a strong focus on complex systems integration .
• Demonstrated expertise in managing mechanical interfaces, defining system architectures, and resolving integration challenges.
• Proficiency in system modeling tools and CAD software for component design and assembly.
• Experience with testing methodologies, V&V (Verification and Validation) processes, and relevant industry standards.
