Principal Mining Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Principal Mining Engineer to join their established technical services team in Sunderland . This senior role will be responsible for the strategic planning and design of mining operations, focusing on optimizing extraction methods and ensuring technical excellence across multiple projects. You will provide expert guidance on mine design, scheduling, and operational efficiency, playing a key role in the company's long-term development and success in the Tyne and Wear region. The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of mining engineering principles and a proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and planning of complex mining projects, including open-pit and underground operations.
• Develop and implement innovative mining strategies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Conduct feasibility studies and detailed mine planning, including scheduling and production forecasting.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of mining engineers and geologists.
• Evaluate and recommend new mining technologies and equipment.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant engineering standards, regulations, and safety protocols.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Mining Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in mine planning, design, and operations.
• Expertise in mine design software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac) and simulation tools.
• Strong understanding of geotechnical engineering, ventilation, and mine surveying principles.
• Proven ability to manage large-scale mining projects and technical teams.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
