We are looking for a senior air quality engineer to lead technically challenging air quality projects within the Rail sector. The role will be based within the Air Quality team in the South West and Wales office, reporting to a Technical Director and supporting the national air quality team across local, regional and national projects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Dispersion modelling using ADMS and ADMS‑Roads, and opportunity to work with other software such as Aermod or Calpuff in a range of sectors.
- Designing and implementing ambient air quality monitoring plans, using passive and automatic techniques.
- Preparing technical reports.
- Project management – budgeting, programming and scoping of deliverables.
- Preparing bid submissions, quotes and tenders.
- Mentoring and supervising junior team members.
- Supporting the strategic direction of the South West and Wales air quality team.
- Completing detailed technical modelling and report reviews.
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders including local authorities and national government bodies.
Qualifications & Experience
- Significant experience in an air‑quality consultancy or similar role.
- Significant experience within the Rail sector.
- A degree in a scientific discipline; a postgraduate environmental qualification is desirable but not essential.
- Excellent technical background, with extensive experience in ADMS and ADMS‑Roads; knowledge of Aermod/Calpuff valuable.
- Experience in ambient air‑quality monitoring.
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, policy, guidance and industry standards.
- Excellent communication and IT skills – experience in Excel and GIS data analysis.
- Associate or full membership of the Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM) is an asset.
- Experience in project management, supervision and quality assurance of work packages.
- Self‑motivated, energetic and proactive, with ownership of utilisation and personal development.
- Ability to produce clear, concise reports and proposals.
