Principal Power Systems Engineer - Grid Stability

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and visionary Principal Power Systems Engineer to lead critical initiatives focused on grid stability and integration of renewable energy sources in Oxford . This senior role involves tackling complex challenges related to power system dynamics, stability analysis, and ensuring the reliability of the grid as it evolves with increasing renewable penetration. You will provide expert technical leadership, shape future grid strategies, and collaborate with national and international bodies to advance the state of the art in power system engineering for the energy sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead advanced studies on power system dynamics, transient stability, and frequency control for grids with high renewable penetration.
• Develop and validate new methodologies and tools for power system stability analysis.
• Provide expert technical guidance on the integration of large-scale renewable energy projects, battery storage, and grid-forming technologies.
• Collaborate with grid operators, regulators, and industry partners to develop and implement solutions for grid stability challenges.
• Mentor and guide junior and mid-level power system engineers.
• Contribute to industry standards development and research initiatives in power system stability.

Requirements

• PhD or MSc in Electrical Power Engineering or a related field with a specialization in power system stability and control.
• Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in power systems engineering, with a significant focus on grid stability and renewable energy integration.
• Expertise in power system simulation software (e.g., PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerFactory) and dynamic modelling.
• Deep understanding of synchronous and asynchronous generator behaviour, FACTS devices, and grid codes.
• Proven ability to lead complex technical projects and influence strategic decisions.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
