Principal Power Systems Engineer

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced Principal Power Systems Engineer to join their esteemed engineering department based in Newcastle upon Tyne . This senior position will involve leading the design, analysis, and optimisation of complex power systems for critical infrastructure projects. You will be responsible for high-level technical decision-making, mentoring a team of engineers, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and safety standards. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of high-voltage power systems, including substations, transmission lines, and distribution networks.
• Perform advanced load flow , short-circuit, and stability studies to ensure system reliability and performance.
• Develop and implement protection schemes and coordinate with protection engineers.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers on the team.
• Oversee the technical aspects of project execution, from initial concept through to commissioning and handover.
• Engage with stakeholders, including clients, regulatory bodies, and other engineering disciplines, to ensure project success.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Power Systems Engineering or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience (10+ years) in the design, analysis, and operation of power systems.
• Expertise in power system analysis software (e.g., PSS/E, ETAP, PSCAD).
• In-depth knowledge of grid codes, relevant standards, and regulatory frameworks.
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities and experience managing engineering teams.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly.
