About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Principal Research Scientist to join their highly respected Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) department in Oxford . This leadership role is critical in assessing the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) properties of drug candidates, thereby informing compound selection and optimization strategies. You will lead key projects, design and interpret complex in vitro and in vivo studies, and collaborate closely with medicinal chemistry and preclinical development teams. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in DMPK science and a commitment to advancing drug discovery through rigorous scientific investigation in Oxford .
Key Responsibilities
- Design, execute, and interpret in vitro and in vivo DMPK studies to characterize drug candidates.
- Develop and validate bioanalytical methods for quantifying drugs and metabolites in biological matrices.
- Assess drug metabolism pathways, enzyme kinetics, and transporter interactions.
- Evaluate drug absorption, distribution, and excretion profiles to inform PK/PD modeling.
- Collaborate with medicinal chemists to optimize compound properties for improved ADME profiles.
- Provide expert DMPK input into drug discovery project teams and contribute to regulatory filings.
Requirements
- PhD in Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) research within the pharmaceutical industry.
- Extensive experience with various in vitro ADME assays (e.g., microsomal stability, CYP inhibition, permeability).
- Proficiency in bioanalytical techniques, such as LC-MS/MS, for drug and metabolite quantification.
- Strong understanding of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and bioanalytical method validation.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, with a collaborative mindset.
