Principal Scientist - Drug Discovery

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly accomplished Principal Scientist to drive forward their ambitious drug discovery programs in Milton Keynes . This senior role demands extensive experience in leading complex research projects from target identification through to lead optimization. You will play a crucial part in shaping the scientific strategy, mentoring a team of dedicated researchers, and fostering a culture of innovation. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and execution of medicinal chemistry and pharmacology studies for new drug candidates.
• Manage and mentor a team of scientists, fostering their professional development and ensuring project success.
• Develop and implement strategic research plans, identifying novel targets and therapeutic modalities.
• Collaborate effectively with internal departments and external partners to advance discovery projects.
• Analyze and interpret complex biological and chemical data, providing critical insights for decision-making.
• Present findings and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and scientific advisory boards.

Requirements

• PhD in Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, or a closely related field.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, with a strong focus on small molecule drug discovery.
• Demonstrated success in leading projects from discovery through to preclinical development.
• Expertise in modern drug discovery techniques, including structure-based drug design and in vitro/in vivo pharmacology.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to inspire and motivate teams.
