Principal Scientist - Drug Discovery

About the Role

Our client is seeking an accomplished Principal Scientist to join their esteemed drug discovery team in Cardiff . This senior role is critical for driving innovation in identifying and validating novel drug targets and advancing small molecule programs through the early stages of development. You will leverage your extensive expertise in pharmacology and medicinal chemistry to design and lead ambitious research projects, contribute to strategic pipeline decisions, and foster a culture of scientific rigor and collaboration. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage multiple drug discovery projects from target identification through to lead optimization.
• Design and execute innovative in vitro and in vivo pharmacology studies to validate targets and assess compound efficacy and safety.
• Provide scientific leadership and mentorship to a team of research scientists and associates.
• Collaborate effectively with chemists, biologists, and other cross-functional teams to achieve project milestones.
• Contribute to the strategic planning and prioritization of the company's drug discovery pipeline.

Requirements

• PhD in Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related life science discipline.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in drug discovery within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
• Demonstrated expertise in a specific therapeutic area (e.g., oncology, immunology, neuroscience) and associated target classes.
• Strong understanding of medicinal chemistry principles and early drug development processes.
• Proven ability to lead complex projects, manage teams, and contribute to strategic scientific direction is essential.
