Principal Scientist - Process Development

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and innovative Principal Scientist to lead their Process Development initiatives in Leeds . This senior role is critical for optimizing and scaling up manufacturing processes for new chemical products. You will be responsible for designing robust, efficient, and cost-effective manufacturing routes, troubleshooting complex process challenges, and ensuring seamless technology transfer from lab to production. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of chemical engineering principles and extensive experience in process optimization, working within a dynamic R&D environment that values scientific rigor and practical application.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and optimization of chemical manufacturing processes, focusing on scalability, efficiency, and safety.
• Design and conduct experimental studies to define critical process parameters (CPPs) and establish robust operating ranges.
• Develop and validate analytical methods for in-process control and final product quality assessment.
• Oversee technology transfer activities from laboratory to pilot plant and commercial manufacturing sites.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex process issues, implementing effective corrective actions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, engineering, and manufacturing, to achieve project goals in Leeds .

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field with a strong emphasis on process development.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in process development and scale-up within the chemical or pharmaceutical industry.
• Proven expertise in process design, optimization, and validation using methodologies like DoE (Design of Experiments).
• Strong understanding of chemical engineering principles, reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and mass transfer.
• Experience with pilot plant operations and technology transfer to manufacturing.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential.
