Principal Scientist - Structural Biology

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly accomplished Principal Scientist with expertise in Structural Biology to lead critical projects within their drug discovery organization in Bristol . This senior role will be responsible for determining the three-dimensional structures of therapeutic targets and drug candidates using cutting-edge biophysical and crystallographic techniques. You will work collaboratively with chemists and biologists to provide crucial structural insights that guide drug design and development. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and execute structure determination projects for therapeutic targets using X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, or other relevant techniques.
• Develop strategies for protein expression, purification, and crystallization/sample preparation.
• Analyze and interpret structural data to provide actionable insights for drug design and optimization.
• Collaborate closely with medicinal chemists and biologists to guide hit-to-lead and lead optimization campaigns.
• Mentor junior scientists and contribute to the development of structural biology capabilities within the company.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in structural biology methodologies and instrumentation.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in structural biology, with a proven track record of success in structure determination.
• Extensive hands-on experience with X-ray crystallography and/or cryo-electron microscopy.
• Proficiency in protein purification, characterization, and biophysical techniques.
• Strong understanding of molecular interactions and drug discovery principles.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with experience presenting complex data.
