Job Description
A well‑established and highly respected structural engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a Principal Structural Engineer for its central London office near Holborn. This is an excellent opportunity for a Chartered Engineer who enjoys autonomy, client interaction, and working on technically varied refurbishment projects across a broad range of sectors. The business has built a strong reputation for delivering practical, high‑quality engineering solutions and maintains long‑standing relationships with a number of blue‑chip and repeat clients.
The successful candidate will join a close‑knit and collaborative team delivering predominantly refurbishment and survey‑led projects across the retail, residential, commercial and industrial sectors. Typical project values are below £5m, offering the chance to work across numerous fast‑paced schemes simultaneously while maintaining strong client relationships throughout the project lifecycle. This role is suited to someone who enjoys being hands‑on, leading projects independently, attending client meetings, carrying out surveys, producing detailed reports, and mentoring junior engineers where required. With a steady pipeline of work and a strong reputation in the market, this position offers genuine long‑term progression and the opportunity to become a key figure within the business.

What You Need To Succeed
- Proven experience delivering structural refurbishment projects.
- Strong background in surveys, defect diagnosis, and report writing.
- Excellent client‑facing and communication skills.
- Ability to manage projects independently from inception to completion.
- Experience working across retail, residential, commercial and/or industrial sectors.
- Competent in structural analysis and design using industry‑standard software.
- Ability to mentor and support junior engineers where required.
- Chartered status with ICE or IStructE.
- A strong academic background with a BEng or MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering.
