About the Role
Our client, a significant operator within the UK's conventional and emerging energy generation landscape, is seeking a highly experienced Principal Thermal Engineer for their key site near Sheffield . This senior technical role is fundamental to the performance, efficiency, and reliability of large-scale thermal power plants. You will provide expert technical leadership, drive innovation in thermal processes, and ensure the highest standards of operational integrity and environmental performance. This is a crucial position for an engineer looking to make a substantial impact on national energy production.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert technical leadership and guidance on all aspects of thermal power plant engineering, including boilers, turbines, and heat exchangers.
- Lead investigations into plant performance issues, root cause analysis, and the development of corrective actions.
- Develop and implement strategies for improving plant efficiency, reliability, and emissions reduction.
- Oversee major maintenance projects, modifications, and upgrades, ensuring technical integrity.
- Mentor and develop junior engineering staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
- Liaise with equipment vendors, contractors, and regulatory bodies on technical matters.
Requirements
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with a relevant professional body.
- Master's degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience (10+ years) in thermal power plant design, operation, or maintenance.
- Deep understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and combustion processes.
- Proven ability to lead complex technical projects and troubleshoot challenging operational issues.
- Strong knowledge of power plant safety regulations and environmental compliance.
