Process Chemist - API Manufacturing

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled and motivated Process Chemist to join their Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) manufacturing team in Nottingham . This role is crucial for developing, optimizing, and scaling up chemical synthesis routes for APIs, ensuring efficient, safe, and cost-effective production. You will work with cutting-edge chemistry and engineering principles to translate laboratory discoveries into robust manufacturing processes. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize synthetic routes for APIs, focusing on yield improvement, cost reduction, and impurity control.
• Scale-up chemical processes from laboratory bench to pilot plant and commercial manufacturing scales.
• Conduct process hazard analyses (PHAs) and ensure safe operating procedures are implemented.
• Investigate and troubleshoot process deviations and quality issues, implementing effective corrective actions.
• Characterize intermediates and final APIs using various analytical techniques (e.g., NMR, HPLC, GC-MS).
• Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure smooth technology transfer and routine production.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or M.S. in Organic Chemistry, Process Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in process chemistry and scale-up within the pharmaceutical or fine chemical industry.
• Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of organic synthesis, reaction mechanisms, and optimization techniques.
• Experience with process safety assessments and HAZOP studies.
• Familiarity with GMP requirements for API manufacturing.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong analytical and communication skills.
