Process Chemist - Scale-Up

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Process Chemist with a focus on scale-up to join their R&D and manufacturing team in Edinburgh . This role is integral to translating laboratory-developed chemical syntheses into robust, safe, and efficient industrial-scale processes. You will work at the interface of research and production, ensuring that new products can be manufactured reliably and cost-effectively. This is an exciting opportunity for a chemist with a strong understanding of chemical engineering principles to contribute to bringing innovative products to market.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize chemical synthesis routes for scale-up, focusing on safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
• Conduct laboratory and pilot-scale experiments to gather process data and identify critical parameters.
• Collaborate closely with chemical engineers to design and implement scalable manufacturing processes.
• Perform thorough risk assessments for new processes and scale-up activities.
• Troubleshoot challenges encountered during scale-up and production, proposing practical solutions.
• Document all experimental findings, process development reports, and scale-up protocols rigorously.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field; MSc or PhD preferred.
• Proven experience in synthetic route development and process scale-up in the pharmaceutical or fine chemical industry.
• Strong understanding of process chemistry , reaction kinetics, and thermodynamics.
• Experience with laboratory automation and analytical techniques relevant to process monitoring.
• Familiarity with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) guidelines where applicable.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
