Process Design Engineer - Petrochemical

About the Role

Our client requires a skilled Process Design Engineer with experience in the petrochemical sector to join their team in Plymouth . This role involves the conceptualization, development, and detailed design of process facilities, ensuring efficiency, safety, and environmental compliance. You will play a critical role in the design lifecycle of complex petrochemical projects, contributing to the company's reputation for excellence in chemical engineering .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop process designs for petrochemical plants, including PFDs, P&IDs, mass and energy balances.
• Specify major process equipment such as reactors, distillation columns, heat exchangers, and pumps.
• Perform process simulations and calculations to optimize designs and ensure operability.
• Conduct hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies and risk assessments.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, structural) to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering .
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in process design engineering, specifically within the petrochemical or oil & gas industry.
• Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS).
• Strong knowledge of petrochemical processes and unit operations.
• Experience with HAZOP facilitation and risk assessment methodologies.
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills for a hybrid working environment.
