About the Role
Our client, a leading pharmaceutical research company in Oxford , is seeking an experienced Process Development Chemist to join their innovative team. This role is central to developing and optimizing chemical synthesis routes for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), ensuring scalability, robustness, and efficiency from laboratory to manufacturing scale. You will play a critical part in advancing drug candidates through the development pipeline, working closely with medicinal chemists, analytical scientists, and manufacturing personnel. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize synthetic routes for pharmaceutical intermediates and APIs.
- Scale up chemical processes from milligram to kilogram quantities, ensuring reproducibility and safety.
- Troubleshoot chemical process issues and implement effective solutions.
- Characterize reaction products and intermediates using analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, NMR, and MS.
- Collaborate with analytical development teams to define specifications and analytical methods.
- Prepare detailed process descriptions and technical reports for regulatory submissions.
Requirements
- MSc or PhD in Organic Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in process chemistry or process development within the pharmaceutical or fine chemical industry.
- Proven track record in synthetic route design and process optimization.
- Hands-on experience with a wide range of synthetic organic chemistry techniques and modern analytical instrumentation.
- Strong understanding of physical organic chemistry and reaction kinetics.
- Excellent documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills for collaborative work in Oxford .
