About the Role
Our client is looking for an innovative Process Development Chemist to join their research and development team in Edinburgh . This role focuses on the laboratory-scale development, optimization, and scale-up of chemical synthesis routes for new products. You will play a key role in translating bench-top discoveries into viable manufacturing processes, working closely with chemical engineers and analytical scientists. This is an exciting opportunity for a chemist passionate about process innovation and driving the early stages of product commercialization within a cutting-edge scientific environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute experiments to develop and optimize synthetic routes for target molecules.
- Investigate reaction mechanisms, kinetics, and thermodynamics to understand and improve process performance.
- Perform laboratory-scale trials to assess process viability and identify critical process parameters.
- Prepare detailed reports on experimental findings, including process summaries, safety information, and recommendations for scale-up.
- Collaborate with chemical engineers to support the transition of processes from laboratory to pilot plant and commercial scale.
- Maintain a well-organized laboratory notebook and adhere to strict safety protocols and quality standards.
Requirements
- BSc or MSc in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or a related field with a focus on synthesis.
- Proven experience in synthetic route development and process optimization in a laboratory setting.
- Familiarity with analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, NMR, and MS for reaction monitoring and product characterization.
- Understanding of chemical engineering principles related to scale-up and process design.
- Excellent laboratory skills, attention to detail, and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative R&D team.
