Process Development Engineer - Pharmaceutical API

About the Role

Our client is seeking an innovative and experienced Process Development Engineer to join their Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) manufacturing team in Stoke-on-Trent . This role will focus on optimizing and scaling up chemical processes for the efficient and safe production of APIs. You will work in a hybrid capacity, balancing laboratory-based development with on-site collaboration and plant support. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring robust, cost-effective, and compliant manufacturing processes for critical pharmaceutical ingredients, contributing directly to the supply chain of essential medicines.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and scale-up chemical synthesis routes for APIs from laboratory to pilot and commercial scale.
• Conduct process hazard assessments and implement appropriate safety controls.
• Design and execute experiments to improve process yield, purity, and efficiency.
• Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with analytical teams to develop and validate process control methods.
• Prepare detailed process descriptions, technical reports, and transfer packages for manufacturing.

Requirements

• Master's or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Organic Chemistry, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in process development within the pharmaceutical or fine chemical industry.
• Strong understanding of organic chemistry, reaction kinetics, and process scale-up principles.
• Experience with process safety evaluations and risk assessments.
• Familiarity with GMP manufacturing environments and regulatory expectations.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong communication skills for hybrid collaboration.
