Process Development Engineer - Pharmaceutical

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly motivated Process Development Engineer with a focus on pharmaceuticals to join their team in Birmingham . This role is critical for the advancement of our drug manufacturing processes, involving the scale-up and optimization of laboratory-based procedures to robust industrial applications. You will be instrumental in translating innovative research into tangible, high-quality pharmaceutical products. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in chemical engineering principles applied to the life sciences sector and thrives in a hands-on, results-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize chemical processes for the manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and intermediates.
• Conduct pilot-scale studies and support the transfer of processes to commercial manufacturing.
• Perform root cause analysis for process deviations and implement corrective and preventative actions (CAPAs).
• Collaborate closely with R&D chemists, analytical scientists, and manufacturing personnel.
• Ensure all development activities comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and regulatory guidelines.
• Author and review technical documentation, including batch records and process validation protocols.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering , Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
• Proven experience in pharmaceutical process development or scale-up.
• Familiarity with GMP regulations and quality systems in the pharmaceutical industry.
• Experience with unit operations such as reaction, distillation, crystallization, and filtration.
• Proficiency in data analysis and statistical process control (SPC).
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills are essential for interdepartmental collaboration.
