Process Development Engineer - Speciality Chemicals

About the Role

Our client is looking for a dedicated Process Development Engineer specializing in speciality chemicals to join their innovative R&D team based in Birmingham . This role is focused on the laboratory development and pilot-scale testing of novel chemical products and processes. You will play a crucial part in translating laboratory discoveries into viable industrial processes, ensuring that new chemical entities can be manufactured safely, efficiently, and sustainably. The successful candidate will be a hands-on engineer with a passion for chemistry and process engineering, eager to contribute to the development of next-generation chemical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and execute experiments for the development and optimization of chemical synthesis routes.
• Operate and troubleshoot pilot plant equipment for process scale-up activities.
• Conduct thorough hazard assessments and implement appropriate safety protocols for new processes.
• Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and prepare comprehensive reports and presentations.
• Collaborate with analytical chemists and other engineers to ensure process robustness and product quality.
• Contribute to the design and commissioning of new process equipment and laboratory facilities.

Requirements

• BEng or MEng in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry with significant process engineering experience.
• Proven experience in process development, scale-up, or pilot plant operations.
• Familiarity with reaction engineering principles and chemical kinetics .
• Experience in handling hazardous materials and implementing safety procedures.
• Strong data analysis skills, preferably with experience in statistical software.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document complex procedures clearly.
