Process Development Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a motivated and innovative Process Development Engineer to join their team in Sheffield . This role focuses on the research, design, and optimization of chemical processes, from laboratory scale through to pilot and full commercial production. You will work collaboratively with R&D, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to ensure the successful development and implementation of new and improved processes. This hybrid role offers a balanced approach to working, allowing for focused remote work on analysis and design, combined with essential on-site collaboration and experimental work.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize chemical processes for new and existing products, focusing on yield, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
• Conduct feasibility studies, pilot trials, and scale-up activities, documenting all stages thoroughly.
• Analyze process data, identify key parameters, and implement process improvements using statistical methods.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to troubleshoot production issues and implement sustainable solutions.
• Prepare detailed technical reports, process descriptions, and safety assessments.
• Work with the engineering team to design and specify new process equipment and instrumentation.

Requirements

• BEng or MEng in Chemical Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in process development, scale-up, or optimization roles within the chemical industry.
• Proficiency with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, Chemcad).
• Strong understanding of chemical reaction engineering, thermodynamics, and unit operations.
• Experience with statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DoE).
• Effective communication and collaboration skills, adaptable to a hybrid work setting.
