About the Role
Our client is seeking an innovative and experienced Process Development Scientist to join their chemical development team in Bradford . This role is central to scaling up laboratory-based synthesis processes to pilot and commercial manufacturing scales for new pharmaceutical intermediates and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). You will be instrumental in optimizing reaction conditions, improving yields, reducing waste, and ensuring the robustness and safety of manufacturing processes. Working within a highly collaborative environment, you will contribute to the efficient and cost-effective production of vital medicines, leveraging your expertise in chemical engineering and process chemistry.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize chemical processes for the synthesis of APIs and intermediates, focusing on scalability, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
- Conduct laboratory and pilot plant experiments to gather process data and identify critical process parameters.
- Perform process hazard analyses and implement appropriate safety measures.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues encountered during process scale-up and manufacturing.
- Collaborate with analytical chemists to develop appropriate in-process controls and release testing methods.
- Write detailed process descriptions, development reports, and contribute to regulatory filings.
Requirements
- MSc or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in process development within the pharmaceutical or fine chemical industry.
- Strong understanding of reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and mass transfer principles.
- Experience with process scale-up, including laboratory and pilot plant operations.
- Knowledge of process safety principles and hazard assessment techniques.
- Proficiency in data analysis and scientific report writing.
