About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly experienced Process Safety Engineer to provide critical expertise in ensuring the safety and integrity of their chemical operations. This role, based in Belfast , is instrumental in safeguarding personnel, assets, and the environment by implementing robust safety management systems and best practices. You will be responsible for leading risk assessments, developing safety procedures, and promoting a strong safety culture across all levels of the organization. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and conduct comprehensive Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) , including HAZOP, HAZID, and LOPA studies for new and existing processes.
- Develop, implement, and maintain the company's Process Safety Management (PSM) system in compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., COMAH).
- Investigate incidents and near misses, determining root causes and recommending effective corrective and preventative actions.
- Develop and deliver process safety training programs to engineers, operators, and management.
- Perform safety reviews for management of change (MOC) requests, ensuring safety implications are thoroughly assessed.
- Stay abreast of evolving process safety legislation and industry best practices, advising management on necessary updates and improvements.
Requirements
- Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience dedicated to process safety engineering in the chemical or petrochemical industry.
- In-depth knowledge of HAZOP, LOPA , and other risk assessment methodologies.
- Strong understanding of safety integrity level (SIL) assessment and functional safety.
- Experience in developing and implementing comprehensive PSM programs .
- Excellent analytical, report writing, and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
