Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and diligent Process Safety Engineer to join their expanding team in Liverpool . This critical role ensures the highest standards of safety are maintained across all chemical processes and operations, safeguarding personnel, the environment, and assets. You will lead and participate in safety assessments, develop robust safety procedures, and champion a proactive safety culture throughout the organisation. This is an essential position for an engineer dedicated to minimising risk and promoting best practices in process safety management within the chemical industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
• Develop, implement, and maintain process safety management (PSM) systems and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant national and international process safety regulations and standards.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Provide technical expertise and training on process safety to engineering and operational staff.
• Review designs for new equipment and modifications to ensure inherent safety.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience specifically focused on process safety in the chemical industry.
• In-depth knowledge of PSM elements, hazard assessment techniques, and risk management.
• Familiarity with relevant safety legislation and industry standards (e.g., COMAH, OSHA PSM).
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex safety data.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills to promote safety awareness.
