Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Process Safety Engineer to join their operations in Birmingham, West Midlands . This role is crucial for ensuring the highest standards of safety are maintained across all their Oil & Gas facilities . You will be responsible for implementing and managing robust process safety management systems, conducting hazard analyses, and promoting a strong safety culture. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of safety regulations and best practices within the energy sector, contributing to the prevention of incidents and safeguarding personnel and the environment. Working within a highly regulated industry, this position demands meticulous attention to detail and a proactive approach to risk management.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Process Safety Management (PSM) programs in line with regulatory requirements and company standards.
• Conduct and facilitate Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and What-If studies.
• Oversee incident investigations, root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety legislation, industry standards, and internal policies.
• Develop and deliver process safety training to operational and engineering staff.
• Audit safety procedures and practices to identify areas for improvement and ensure ongoing compliance.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Proven experience as a Process Safety Engineer, preferably within the Oil & Gas or Chemical industries .
• In-depth understanding of PSM elements, including PHA, MOC, PSSR, and mechanical integrity.
• Familiarity with relevant UK and international safety regulations and standards (e.g., COMAH).
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and assess process risks effectively.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
