Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Process Safety Engineer to bolster their safety management systems in Portsmouth . This vital role ensures the integrity and safety of their operational facilities by implementing robust process safety protocols and conducting thorough risk assessments. You will collaborate closely with engineering, operations, and management teams to foster a strong safety culture. The position operates on a hybrid model, combining office-based work with remote flexibility.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies , Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), and other risk assessment techniques.
• Develop and implement Process Safety Management (PSM) programs and procedures.
• Perform safety reviews for new projects and modifications to existing facilities.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with relevant process safety regulations and industry standards.
• Provide training and guidance on process safety principles to operational and engineering staff.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in process safety engineering , preferably within the oil and gas or chemical industries .
• In-depth knowledge of HAZOP, LOPA, SIL assessments, and other PSM elements.
• Familiarity with relevant safety codes and standards (e.g., OSHA PSM, API).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills for a hybrid work environment.
