Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client seeks a proactive and meticulous Process Safety Engineer to join their operations in Edinburgh . This critical role focuses on ensuring the highest standards of safety across all oil and gas processing facilities, safeguarding personnel, assets, and the environment. You will be responsible for implementing and maintaining robust process safety management systems, conducting hazard identification studies, and driving a strong safety culture throughout the organization. This position requires a deep understanding of chemical processes, risk assessment methodologies, and regulatory compliance within the Scottish energy sector, operating under a hybrid model.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) systems.
• Conduct and facilitate Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) such as HAZOP, LOPA, and What-If studies.
• Oversee the development and management of safety-critical equipment and procedures.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Ensure compliance with relevant national and international process safety regulations and standards.
• Provide training and guidance to operational teams on process safety best practices.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process safety engineering , preferably within the oil and gas or chemical industries.
• In-depth knowledge of PHA methodologies and risk assessment techniques.
• Familiarity with relevant safety standards and regulations (e.g., COMAH).
• Experience with incident investigation and root cause analysis.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
