Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a meticulous and experienced Process Safety Engineer to bolster their safety initiatives in Sunderland . This critical role ensures the highest standards of safety are maintained across all chemical processing operations, safeguarding personnel, the environment, and company assets. You will be responsible for the development, implementation, and management of process safety systems and procedures, playing a vital part in risk assessment and mitigation. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) , including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
• Develop and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) programs and procedures in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Review engineering designs and Management of Change (MOC) processes to ensure safety integrity.
• Provide technical expertise and training on process safety principles to site personnel.
• Monitor safety performance metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives in process safety.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline, with a strong focus on safety.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process safety engineering within the chemical or petrochemical industry.
• In-depth knowledge of HAZOP, LOPA , and other risk assessment methodologies.
• Familiarity with relevant safety regulations and standards (e.g., COMAH, OSHA PSM).
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent qualification is highly desirable.
• Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
