Product Development Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a driven Product Development Engineer to join their innovative product development team in Southampton . This role involves the full lifecycle of product development, from initial concept generation and prototyping through to design validation and manufacturing transfer. You will be instrumental in developing cutting-edge solutions that meet market needs and drive business growth. Working within a fast-paced R&D environment, you will collaborate with diverse teams to transform ideas into market-ready products, based in the thriving city of Southampton.

Key Responsibilities

• Conceptualize, design, and develop new mechanical products and components.
• Create prototypes, conduct testing, and analyze results to refine designs.
• Generate detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using CAD software.
• Work closely with manufacturing engineers to ensure designs are optimized for mass production (DFM/DFA).
• Perform root cause analysis on design issues and implement effective solutions.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and market trends relevant to product development.

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in product development and mechanical design.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD packages.
• Experience with rapid prototyping techniques and manufacturing processes.
• Strong understanding of materials, mechanics, and design for manufacturability.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
