Product Development Scientist - FMCG

About the Role

Our client, a dynamic innovator in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) market, is seeking a skilled and creative Product Development Scientist to join their research and development team in Southampton . This role is fundamental to bringing new and improved products to life, from conceptualization through to launch. You will be involved in formulating new products, optimizing existing ones, and ensuring they meet stringent quality, safety, and regulatory standards. This hands-on position requires a scientific mindset, a passion for food science or related fields, and the ability to work collaboratively in a laboratory and pilot plant setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory research and development to create innovative new FMCG products .
• Formulate and optimize product recipes and processes to meet target specifications and cost parameters.
• Conduct shelf-life studies, sensory evaluations, and performance testing for new and existing products.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, operations, and quality assurance, throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Ensure all product development activities comply with relevant food safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
• Troubleshoot technical issues related to product formulation and manufacturing processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in product development, ideally within the FMCG food industry .
• Strong understanding of food chemistry, ingredient functionality, and product formulation techniques.
• Experience with laboratory equipment, pilot plant operations, and scale-up processes.
• Knowledge of food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP) and quality control principles.
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
