Product Development Scientist

About the Role

Our client is seeking an innovative and skilled Product Development Scientist to join their dynamic R&D team, operating remotely and supporting their operations in Cambridge . This role is central to the creation of new and improved FMCG products, involving formulation, testing, and scaling up processes from laboratory to pilot and commercial production. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, regulatory affairs, and manufacturing, to bring cutting-edge products to market that meet consumer needs and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities

• Formulate and develop new FMCG products, optimizing for taste, texture, shelf-life, and cost-effectiveness.
• Conduct benchtop experiments, pilot trials, and sensory evaluations to assess product viability and performance.
• Troubleshoot formulation issues and scale-up processes from laboratory to manufacturing.
• Collaborate closely with marketing teams to understand consumer needs and translate them into product concepts.
• Work with regulatory affairs to ensure compliance with all relevant food safety and labeling standards.
• Document research findings, experimental procedures, and product specifications meticulously.

Requirements

• Master's or Ph.D. in Food Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in product development within the FMCG industry , specifically with food or beverage products.
• Strong understanding of food chemistry, formulation techniques, and processing technologies.
• Experience with laboratory equipment, analytical techniques, and sensory evaluation methods.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively to overcome technical challenges.
• Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a remote setting.
