The Situation

A leading rail engineering organisation is expanding its rolling stock upgrade capability and is seeking an experienced Installation Supervisor to support the delivery of a major fleet modernisation programme.

This is a hands-on supervisory role, leading installation activities on the workshop floor and acting as the key link between technicians and management. You will be responsible for coordinating daily work, maintaining productivity, removing barriers to delivery, and ensuring installations are completed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Technician, Lead Fitter, Working Supervisor, Team Leader, or experienced Rolling Stock Technician looking to step into or further develop their career in installation supervision.

As the Installation Supervisor, you will take ownership of day-to-day workshop activities, lead a team of technicians through a major rolling stock upgrade programme, and play a critical role in delivering project milestones. The position offers the chance to develop leadership, planning, people management, and project coordination skills while gaining exposure to a high-profile rail modernisation project.

Key Deliverables

Within the first 12 months, you will be expected to:

Coordinate installation activities across the project team. Ensure technicians have clear daily work allocations. Support achievement of project milestones and installation targets. Maintain quality and safety standards. Identify and communicate opportunities for efficiency improvements. Provide real-time feedback to the Production Manager on project progress and challenges.

Key Responsibilities

Allocate daily workloads to technicians. Coordinate activities across the workshop floor. Support installation and modification activities when required. Ensure work is completed in accordance with current drawings and instructions. Identify and escalate material shortages or technical issues. Provide frontline leadership and guidance to the installation team. Assist with risk assessments and safe systems of work. Support continuous improvement initiatives. Act as the communication link between technicians and management.

Essential Skills and Competencies

Essential Experience

Fitter, Mechanical Fitter, Rolling Stock Technician, or similar engineering background. Experience working on installation, modification, or upgrade projects. Frontline supervisory, lead technician, or team leadership experience. Ability to coordinate and direct workshop activities.

Desirable Experience

Experience of rail vehicle installation or upgrade programmes. Rolling stock modification programmes. Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement exposure. Risk assessment and safe working practices knowledge. NVQ Level 3 Engineering or equivalent.

Location and Working Conditions

Location: Leeds Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:00 to 15:30
