Project Engineer - Chemical Plant

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly organized and technically proficient Project Engineer to manage and execute capital projects for their chemical manufacturing facility in Portsmouth . This role is essential for the successful delivery of plant upgrades, new installations, and process improvement initiatives, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards. You will play a critical role in planning, coordinating, and overseeing all phases of project execution, working closely with internal engineering, operations, and external contractors. This is a fantastic opportunity for a driven engineer to take ownership of significant projects in a key industrial hub.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the full project lifecycle for capital and process improvement projects, from initiation and planning to execution and closure.
• Develop detailed project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource requirements.
• Coordinate and supervise the work of internal teams and external contractors to ensure adherence to project specifications and timelines.
• Ensure all projects comply with stringent health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct site inspections, progress meetings, and risk assessments throughout the project duration.
• Procure equipment and services, managing vendor relationships and contract performance.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering , Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Proven experience (5+ years) as a Project Engineer in a chemical processing or heavy industrial environment.
• Strong understanding of project management methodologies and tools (e.g., Gantt charts, critical path analysis).
• Experience with P&IDs, PFDs, and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Knowledge of process safety principles and regulatory compliance in the chemical industry.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and negotiation skills.
