Title: Project Manager Location: Cardiff / South Wales Salary: £60,000 – £70,000 + Car Allowance + Overtime + Package Sector: Principal Contractor – Civils / Structures / Rail / Construction Start Date: ASAP / Flexible Project Manager – The Company Our client is an established principal contractor delivering multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects across the railway sector, with a particular focus on civil engineering works. Their projects cover a varied range of infrastructure and civils packages, including structures, station works and associated rail infrastructure. With a strong pipeline of secured work across Wales, they are looking to appoint an experienced Project Manager to join their Cardiff-based team. This is a permanent opportunity offering varied projects, considerable responsibility and excellent long-term prospects within an established contractor. Project Manager – The Role As Project Manager, you will take responsibility for the successful delivery of multiple civil engineering projects across Wales, managing projects from mobilisation through to completion and handover. Initially based from the Cardiff office, you will travel to projects across Wales as required. Early projects will include a Station Gates & Passenger Validation scheme across Wales alongside pump replacement works at a Network Rail depot in Sudbrook. The role requires a commercially and operationally capable Project Manager who is comfortable managing clients, subcontractors, programmes and contractual requirements. Key responsibilities will include:
- Overall management and delivery of civil engineering projects
- Managing projects from mobilisation through to completion
- Leading and coordinating site teams and subcontractors
- Managing client relationships and key project stakeholders
- Subcontractor procurement, management and performance
- Working within NEC4 contractual requirements
- Developing, monitoring and managing construction programmes
- Managing project risk, change and early warnings
- Monitoring progress, costs and overall project performance
- Coordinating commercial, operational and technical teams
- Ensuring works are delivered safely and to required quality standards
- Chairing client, subcontractor and project progress meetings
- Providing regular project reporting to senior management
- Driving successful project completion and handover Project Manager – The Person The successful candidate will be an experienced Project Manager with a strong civil engineering background and a proven ability to take ownership of construction projects. Rail experience would be advantageous but is not essential. Candidates could come from a broader civil engineering background including structures, groundworks, infrastructure or other complex civils projects. You should have:
- Minimum five years’ experience working at Project Manager level
- Strong civil engineering project experience
- Good working knowledge and experience of NEC4 contracts
- Strong client management skills
- Proven subcontractor management experience
- Excellent programme, planning and organisational ability
- Good commercial and contractual awareness
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to manage projects independently and solve problems effectively
- Relevant construction qualifications and industry certification
